Police have arrested former actor Kentaro Shimizu on suspicion of drug use, it's been revealed.It is the fifth time that the 57-year-old, whose real name is Iwao Sonoda, has been arrested for possessing and using illegal substances. He already faced two prison sentences in the past.
The suspect has reportedly admitted that he inhaled stimulants in Tokyo and other locations in early August, saying, "I used drugs in my apartment."
According to investigators, Shimizu was questioned by police at JR Ueno Station in Tokyo's Taito Ward on Aug. 9, and tested positive for drug use.
Shimizu made his debut as a singer in 1976 and won the Best New Artist at the Japan Record Awards the following year. He was first arrested in 1983 in violation of the Cannabis Control Act. In October 2008, he was arrested over a hit-and-run accident and given a seven-month prison term.
